Sambalpur: Police on Monday, in a major breakthrough, apprehended three Maoists including two women rebels from Gariakhaman forest here. The arrested ultras have been identified as Sulochana Garnaik, Sarita Singh and Satyaban Mirdha. The cops have seized a gun, gelatin, detonators, Maoist literature, uniforms and a cash of Rs 3,320 from their possession.


As per the police, the ultras were planning to reorganize in Sambalpur district, but they got arrested.

Satyaban Mirdha, one of the three ultras, is believed to be the brother of another hardcore ultra Rahul Mirdha and brother-in-law of Sulochana.

Similarly, Sarita is said to be one of the hardcore ultras operating in Jharkhand. The rebel has several cases registered to her name, police officials informed.

Besides this, Sulochana, who has more than 15 cases registered to her name, is considered to be the first woman ultra operating in Sambalpur-Deogarh-Sundargarh zone. In addition to it, the police believe that Sulochana has played an active role during Nayagarh attack. Again, she has been responsible for the recruitment of minor boys and girls in the red brigade.

However, Sulochana’s family members have alleged that the cops had taken Sulochana from her house by force on July 13.

Earlier, the police had also returned a corpse to the family members claiming it to be that of Sulochana on 26 November 2006, the family members of Sulochana revealed.
