Salipur: Suspected Al Qaeda in Indian Subcontinent (AQIS) operative Abdul Rehman has been sent back to New Delhi’s Tihar jail after being produced before the Salipur Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC) court today.

"Rehman was sent back to Tihar jail as his deposition before the Patiala Court is scheduled on May 23. He would be produced before the Salipur court again on May 29 with all the case papers," Rehman’s counsel Arunodaya Mohanty said.

Earlier today, Rehman was produced before the court on the basis of an appeal made by the Special Task Force (STF) of the Odisha Crime Branch after being brought from Tihar Jail.

Rehman’s counsel sought court permission to lodge him in jail in the State. But the court later directed the STF to shift him back to Tihar Jail as he is likely to be produced in the Patiala Court on May 29.

Rehman was arrested following a joint raid by the special cell of Delhi police and the Bhubaneswar-Cuttack Commissionerate Police on December 15, 2015.  He was accused of illegally running a Madrasa on the outskirts of Cuttack and radicalizing youths for terror activities.
