Bhubaneswar: A day after the Government of Telangana extended its support to Odisha on Polavaram row, Leader of Opposition, Narasingh Mishra today lambasted BJD-led State government for being over-excited about it.
Mishra alleged that the BJD is only politicising the Polavaram matter.

"There are many ways to do politics and BJD is always looking for such opportunities. Why it is so excited just after getting support from another State when the matter is sub-judice in Supreme Court? The government doesn’t even have proper data on the areas to be submerged once the project gets operational," Mishra said.

At a meeting with Odisha CM Naveen Patnaik yesterday, which he termed a 'courtesy call', Telangana Deputy Chief Minister Kadiyam Srihari said, "We are with the Odisha government as far as Polavaram is concerned."

"During the discussion Odisha CM has given me a note on Polavaram and requested our government to support Odisha's stand on the controversial issue," Srihari had said adding Telangana is equally a loser due to the project.

Earlier, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik had raised the issue at the inter-state council meet held in New Delhi last week. He had approached the PM to halt the construction work.

The Odisha government has been vehemently opposing the controversial project, as in its current design, it would submerge 25 habitations in Malkangiri district and inundate around 7,656 hectares of agriculture and forest land. Chhattisgarh has also been opposing the construction besides Odisha and Telangana as the project will affect several tribal habitations and submerge hectares of farm land.
