Novo-Ogarevo: The Russian government welcomes the creation of special scientific centres to explore energy resources for joint development of shelf deposits in the Arctic by BP and Rosneft, Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin said at a meeting with the leadership of the company British Petroleum (BP).

As BP chief executive director Robert Dadley said, Russia`s Arctic shelf has a great potential and while developing this region, it is necessary to use the latest technologies. According to him, the construction of centres for the shelf`s exploration in St Petersburg and Murmansk is another stage of cooperation with Russia.

The BP head recalled that his company has been working with Russia for a long time. BP has been a partner of Rosneft for many years already and the two companies` cooperation, as Dadley stressed, will be continued while implementing new projects.

Dadley expressed the hope that cooperation between BP and Rosneft on Russia`s Arctic shelf will favourably tell on the investment climate and inflow of foreign investments to Russia. He hopes that cooperation between BP and Rosneft will be a powerful impetus for cooperation with Russia in the field of investments.
