Proposed communal violence bill undemocratic: VHP

The Prevention of Communal and Targeted Violence (Access to Justice and Reparations) Bill has been drafted by the Sonia Gandhi-led National Advisory Council (NAC).

"The proposed Bill is undemocratic and is also a deliberate attempt by Sonia Gandhi to protect the image of the Government tarnished by scams in the last few years," VHP President Ashok Singhal told reporters here.

Perceiving "danger" to the Congress-led ruling coalition, the Centre is enacting the Bill to appease the minority communities, he maintained.

To oppose the proposed law, seers would launch a nationwide agitation and VHP will support it. If required, we will also seek the backing of political parties, he said.

The VHP leader alleged that NAC was an "undemocratic" body and a majority of its members were "anti-Hindu". "If the Bill is enacted Sonia`s political rivals can be put behind bars for a long time."

The law will create a sense of fear among the majority community. It will pave the way for registration of cases against Hindus and not against the minority communities during riots. Not only that the rift between Hindus and Muslims will widen, the VHP leader claimed.

Singhal hit out at social activist Teesta Setalvad, accusing her of "registering fake cases against Hindus and presenting fake evidences and testimonials in Gujarat".

On black money, he said, "everybody in India wants the black money stashed abroad to be brought back.
