Berhampur: Police foiled a bid by miscreants to loot about Rs 50 lakh from a bank vehicle at Bhatakamarada road, about 25 km from here, on Friday.

The miscreants exploded a bomb but the timely arrival of the security personnel forced them to flee the spot, the police said.

Later a crude bomb and a motorcycle used by miscreants was recovered.

The driver of the bank vehicle sustained minor injury as the windshield of the vehicle cracked due to the explosion, the police said.

The cash was being taken from State Bank of India Berhampur branch to the Purushottampur branch.

All roads to and from the area have been cordoned off and a manhaunt was launched to nab the culprits, the police said.
