Over 50 persons sustained injuries after they were stung by honey bees while attending a daily market at Dohelapada village under Khariar block of Nuapada district on Tuesday.

As per initial reports, there was a rush at the weekly market when the honey bees started swarming and attacking people present at the spot. Jamakhunta Sarpanch, Udhav Behera, who sustained multiple injuries after being stung by the bees, is now undergoing treatment Sandhekala Community Health Centre (CHC). His condition is now said to be stable.

“I had come to the market when the bees attacked several people on the spot. I have been stung on my face and other parts of the body,” said Behera.

According to Behera, around 50 to 60 persons were injured in the bee attack. A local resident, Bishnu Behera said, “People were busy marketing when they were attacked by the bees. All of them started running and the entire market became deserted within a few minutes.”
