Berhampur (Odisha): Nine persons were arrested today in connection with the murder of a married woman at Padmapur village in Ganjam district`s Sheragada police station limit on May 5.

Sabita Nayak (25), mother of a five-year-old boy, was allegedly killed by Kuna Nayak, one of her neighbours who set her afire after pouring kerosene, police said.

The incident was a fallout of an extra martial relationship between the two, while the husband of the deceased, Titu Nayak, was working at Surat in Gujarat, police said.

After committing the murder, Kuna, the main accused and eight others of the village cremated the body, informing the husband of the deceased that she committed suicide, said Inspector in charge of Sheragada police, P K Sahu.

Kuna was arrested from the railway station here while trying to escape and booked for murder, Sahu said. Eight others were arrested for allegedly helping in destroying evidence, he added.
