Molestation accused gives slip to police

The accused identified as Santosh Mallick, Inspector, CID-Special Branch in Cuttack was arrested today for allegedly molesting a minor girl when he was travelling to Puri on board Jagannath Express for rath yatra duty.

The nine-year-old girl accompanying her family from Kolkata was asleep when the accused, stated to be in an inebrieted state, allegedly outraged her modesty, Railway DSP Pandab Mohanty said quoting the FIR lodged by the girl`s mother.

The minor`s family members and co-passengers woke up at the scream of the girl and caught the police official who was in plain clothe, the DSP said adding that the inspector was also allegedly beaten up by passengers.

(image) The accused was arrested after he was handed over to Government Railway Police (GRP).

The police inspector on the other hand has lodged a complaint against some passengers for assaulting him, he said.

Meanwhile, police swung into action and manhunt has been launched to arrest the accused.
