Bhubaneswar: Women beneficiaries of the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana in Mayurbhanj had an opportunity to interact with Prime Minister Narendra Modi through video conferencing today.

Speaking to Suchismita Kabat and other women attending the session at NIC in the district, Modi asked if they had ever been charged for the free LPG connections. “You must immediately write to me if anyone demands money to get you the gas connection,” he said.

The Prime Minister asked Suchismita about the problems she used to face while using a chulha and whether she finds any difference after getting an LPG connection.

Replying to the question, Suchismit said, “With the LPG connection in place, I am able to wind up my cooking chores a lot faster. Now I am devoting more time to teach my children and follow up their lessons. Earlier the firewood used to get wet during rains and caused a lot of trouble. But all such problems are sorted now.”

Union Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas Dharmendra Pradhan, who participated in the video conferencing at a special programme organised at the IOCL premises, thanked Prime Minister Modi for success of the Yojana.

“A total of 10 crore LPG connections including 4 crore free connections have been provided to poor women in last four years. The government has done everything possible to shield women and children from kitchen smoke,” said Pradhan
