Berhampur: A man was beaten to death allegedly by his son, believed to be mentally unstable, at a village in Ganjam district, police said today. Sixty-year-old Trilochan Panda, a shopkeeper, was allegedly beaten to death by his son Tapomaya (26) on Tuesday at Buguda, about 60 km from here.

Tapomaya was arrested after the incident, said inspector-in-charge, Buguda, Sushant Kumar Sethi. The body was recovered and sent for post-mortem, police said.

The accused person, stated to be mentally ill, beat his father without any reason while he was preparing to proceed to Berhampur to catch a train to Siridi. His mother was present at the time of the incident in the house.

In another incident, Rajiv Sahu alias Kalai of Nimina village was allegedly stoned to death by at least a dozen miscreants at Baragon, when he along with two friends was on way to take breakfast at nearby Baragon, police said.

His friend Babuni Sahu was injured in the attack, they said.
