Jilted lover sets girls house on fire, attempts suicide
The jilted lover identified as Subas Tarai, a resident of Piteipur village in Dhamnagar consumed poison after setting the house of the girl he loved on fire and threw acid on her parents.
As per reports, the culprit had developed a one-sided love affair with a girl of the same village and was interested to marry her. But the family members were opposed to his proposal after which Tarai wanted to teach them a lesson.
“He (Subas) locked my parents inside the house and poured petrol on it. When my parents opened the window and cried for help he threw acid at them and set the house on fire”, said Sila (pseudonym) the culprits lover.
“Around six months back, the family members of the girl had convened a meeting of the village members to solve the issue and an FIR too was lodged with the police”, said a resident of the village.
On Thursday night, the outraged one-sided lover threw acid on the face of the girl’s parents and set their house on fire. After he was done with his plans, the culprit too made an attempt to commit suicide by consuming poison. However, police arrested him and sent for medical treatment to the Bhadrak hospital. The attacked parents were also admitted to the SCB medical college and hospital in Cuttack.
“The accused Subas Tarai too had consumed poison. He is also hospitalized and undergoing treatment. The case is under investigation now”, said investigating officer Pradeep Kumar Munda.
Meanwhile, the irate villagers destroyed the grocery shop owned by Tarai which was adjacent to the victim’s home.
