Baripada: Former BJP MLA from Jashipur assembly constituency Bhanu Charan Naik passed away at Khiching in Mayurbhanj district today, family sources said.

He was 70.

Naik is survived by his wife, two sons and two daughters.

He was suffering from high blood pressure and acute diabetis, family sources said.

Naik was elected to Odisha Assembly as BJP nominee in the year 2000 in the 12th assembly poll.

He had also served as the mine foreman in SAIL and opted for voluntary retirement service to join politics.

His last rites was performed at his native village today. Jashipur MLA Mangal Singh Mudi and several BJP functionaries attended his funeral.
