Lucknow: Samajwadi Party on Tuesday alleged that ruling BSP supporters were intimidating its workers by framing them in fake cases.

SP state unit chief Akhilesh Yadav also said women were not safe in the state.

He was addressing election meetings in Pipraich and some other places in Gorakhpur district in favour of party nominee Rajmati Nishad for the Assembly bye-election on Sunday.

The bye-election has been necessitated due to the death of sitting BSP MLA Jamuna Prasad Nishad in a road accident in November last year.

Yadav said victory of the SP candidate would send a strong message that the days of BSP were numbered.

Assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh are due early next year.
