Bhubaneswar: Anti-corruption sleuths today arrested a branch manager of United Central Co-operative Bank, Gondia Branch in Dhenkanal district while allegedly accepting bribe, vigilance sources said. The vigilance department registered a case against Kumar Pradhan, the branch manager for demanding of illegal gratification Rs 5,000 from the complainant Damayanati Sahu of Village Arachua of Dhenkanal district.

Sahu was the secretary of Shakti Bidyutprava Self Help Group and had approached Kumar for release of subsidy money of Rs 90,000 sanctioned in favour the S.H.G. in connection with goat farming, they said. In course of investigation, the official said a trap was laid by the Vigilance officers of Cuttack Division and the Branch Manager was caught red-handed by the sleuths, in his office Chamber.

"Bribe money was recovered from the pant pocket of accused Pradhan and seized in presence of witnesses. His hand and pant pocket wash gave positive chemical reaction confirming acceptance of bribe, the official said.
