Bhubaneswar: Adding another feather to its cap, the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Bhubaneswar has been adjudged the second best among B-category hospitals in the country under the Prime Minister Narendra Modi's 'Swachh Bharat' mission.

The institute will receive a cash award of Rs 1 crore for its performance in 'Kayakalp Scheme' instituted by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare under Swachh Bharat.

North Eastern Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health and Medical Sciences, Shillong has secured first position and will receive a cash award of Rs 1.5 crore.

The health ministry has sanctioned Rs 10 crore for the award distribution under the Kayakalp scheme which is given to Centre-run hospitals in two categories- A and B for maintaining all round sanitation, hygiene, waste management, infection control, support services, hygiene promotion and proper feedback mechanism from public on cleanliness.

All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in New Delhi was ranked top in A category and bagged an award of Rs 2.50 crore while Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) in Chandigarh secured second position and will receive Rs 1.50 cr.
