Kolkata: The government is planning to ensure that within three years there should not be any case pending for long periods, Union Law Minister Veerappa Moily on Friday said.
With around 2.5 crore cases pending in various courts in the country, Moily launched an ambitious programme `Mission Mode` to bring down the pendency.
"The rule of the law is affected if justice is delayed," he said, adding "we are trying to cover all courts to e-court system."
Union Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee who was also present said that there was a mismatch between planned and unplanned expenditure and there was pressure from different quarters to include judiciary with planned expenditure.
"Necessary infrastructure should be provided like modern gadgets and latest technology so that delivery of justice can be made faster," Mukherjee said.
"Moreover we need to develop expertise because commercial law is becoming more complicated and the common man should come under the purview of the legal aid system. The common man should have access to law because this is most important for social security," Mukherjee said.
The Law Ministry was also holding a discussion with LIC for insurance coverage for lawyers, Moily said.
"We are having discussion with the LIC so that the lawyers can come under insurance coverage," he said.
