Reached late to office, faced boss’ fury again...? For all those who stand in long queues to fill petrol in car/bike... relax, for, Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) is working on its ambitious project of delivering diesel and petrol at your doorsteps.

IOC, in consultation with the Petroleum and Explosives Safety Organisation (PESO), has already finalised the design of the container that will be used for  home delivery.

"We have advanced slightly. We had discussions with PESO and a design has been frozen for containers to be used. We have worked out a design and there may be minor changes in consultation with PESO," The Financial Express quoted IOC chairman Sanjiv Singh as saying.

IOC is likely to home-deliver diesel first and will subsequently start home delivery of petrol too.

Earlier, petroleum minister Dharmendra Pradhan had said, in a tweet sometime back, the ministry was exploring ways to home-deliver petroleum products such as diesel and petrol. However, the idea could not be materialised as safety concerns were raised by the petroleum ministry, oil marketing companies (OMCs), department of consumer affairs, and the department of industry policy and promotion.

Currently, piped natural gas and liquefied petroleum gas are home-delivered.

Meanwhile, OMCs are likely to be bestowed with the responsibility of the operations; however, the process will be carried out by external parties.

"We will look at how to go about distribution of the product as we have to see the market we are going to serve and the volumes. However, it will not be done by us 100%. We will outsource," said Singh.
