New Delhi: Vice President M. Venkaiah Naidu on Thursday released the Lok Sabha calendar 2018 which is based on the theme of inscriptions in parliament.

Naidu said the theme of the calendar is unique and motivating and the sublime messages in the inscriptions were pearls of wisdom and part of the country's philosophical traditions.

He said Parliament discusses the entire range of activities of a nation and deliberations of the "august body" should be inspired by the highest traditions of truth and righteousness.

Naidu said that the inscriptions would give the visitor insights into the timeless values on which the country's way of life is anchored.

Speaker Sumitra Mahajan said that the calendar provides glimpses of inscriptions nestled on domes, arches, chambers and other places in the Parliament House building.

She said the thoughts from Rigveda, Mahabharata, Shrimad Bhagwad Gita, the Holy Quran, Manusmriti, Panchatantra and Kautilya's Arthshastra extol the virtues of charity, kindness to fellow beings and brotherhood.

Union Minister of Parliamentary Affairs Ananth Kumar and members of Indian Parliamentary Group were among those present at the occasion.
