Kolkata: West Bengal Governor M K Narayayan, who has at times expressed concern over farmer suicides, incidents of rape and campus violence in the state, today showered praise on Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, describing her as "dynamic".

"We have a government led by a dynamic Chief Minister. The Chief Minister has set a different benchmark by trying to achieve numerous things in such a short period of time," the Governor said at a function commemorating the completion of one year of the new government.

However, on a cautious note, he said, "It should be kept in mind that Bengal`s tradition and enduring hopes have suffered many a setback. There have been several periods of political and economic decay which have undermined progress. "Thus questions might be raised that the optimism generated by the initial actions of this government should not end this way."
