Dehra Dun: A day after he was sworn in, Uttarakhand Chief Minister B C Khanduri today said the period of `shradh`, considered inauspicious by Hindus for starting new ventures, would not be allowed to affect development works in the state.

"Whatever is appropriate, we will take decisions accordingly," Khanduri said when asked whether the shradh period would stop him from taking important decisions.

Khanduri is virtually facing an uphill task as far as development works are concerned since the assembly elections are just five months away.

Khanduri also said he has a plethora of works to be completed which include some unfinished tasks handed over to his government from the previous Nishank government.

Thanking people of the state for their overwhelming support, Khanduri said he wanted to make Uttarakhand a model state.

"Such a small geographical area possesses wonderful natural resources like forests, water, herbs, scenic beauty.I believe Uttarakhand has all the potential to become a model state," he said.

He said his government would work as per the spirit of the sacrifices made for the formation of the new state of Uttarakhand.

"If we want to pay true tributes to our statehood activist, then we have to develop Uttarakhand as per their aspirations," he said, adding good governance would be the main poll plank of his government.
