New Delhi: Delhi Government will construct 25 new foot overbridges across the city as part of efforts to provide safe passage to pedestrians in busy intersections.

Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit said this after inaugurating a swanky foot overbridge on the Ring Road near Wazipur today.

"We will construct 25 more FOBs across the city," she said.

The FOB at Wazirpur, the 51st such facility in the city, has lifts on both sides of the road besides spacious stair-cases.

The 44 metre-long FOB having a tube-like design has been constructed at a cost of Rs 4.30 crore. It has been built by Public Works Department.

"The design of the FOB is very unique and it is one of its kind in Delhi," said PWD Minister Raj Kumar Chauhan.

Dikshit said her government has been striving hard to strengthen transport infrastructure in the city and will continue its efforts to improve it further.

She expressed confidence that commissioning of more and more FOBs will improve pedestrians` safety and minimise the number of road accidents.

The FOB at Wazirpur connects Netaji Subhash Place and Metro Station on one side and DTC bus depot on the other side.

Chauhan said the FOB has been provided with lift facility so that old people as well as differently-abled persons do not face problem in crossing the road.
