"We would like to apologise to passengers of our Hyderabad to Heathrow service. Due to a technical problem with one of its engines, this morning`s BA-276 flight had to carry out an aborted take-off and return to stand. Our pilots are trained to deal with such eventualities and the procedure was carried out in a controlled and safe manner," British Airways said in a statement.
Among the 179-odd passengers on board of the flight was noted actor Nagarjuna, the sources said.
The airways further said in the statement that the aircraft, of Boeing 767 class, experienced a "high-speed aborted take-off" as its right engine did not generate enough power. Aborting the take-off was a normal procedure usually followed for the Boeing 767 aircraft.
Besides apologising passengers, the British Airways said its pilots were trained to deal with such eventualities and the procedure was carried out in a controlled and safe manner.
It also said that the flight engineers are working to resolve the problem as soon as possible.
"We are doing all possible to accommodate our customers on any alternate flight that is available and the rest are being accommodated in hotels. We regret the inconvenience this delay has caused to the travel plans of our customers," the statement said.
