New Delhi: Bihar Governor Ram Nath Kovind is chosen as ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA) Presidential candidate, said BJP national president Amit Shah today.

Briefing media about the party's decision, Shah stated Prime Minister Narendra Modi has already talked to all political party leaders including Congress chief Sonia Gandhi and former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to seek their support for BJP's president candidate. Kovind is likely to file his nomination for the President post on June 23, Shah added.

Kovind was a Rajya Sabha member in April 1994 from Uttar Pradesh and served for two consecutive terms for 12 years till March 2006.

He was born in Paraunkh village of Uttar Pradesh and married to Smt Savita. He has Bachelor's degrees in Commerce and law, both from Kanpur University.
