At the first sight of her, you would mistake her as a beauty queen or someone straight out of Bollywood. Try to find more about her and you are certain to be shocked, for, she is one among the uniform-clad-baton-holding tough cops who has the distinction of being one of the first lady officers to command a troop outside the state for election duty. Meet Merin Joseph, the youngest Kerala cadre IPS Officer who cleared the UPSC exam in 2013 at 25 years of age.

After getting through the Civils in 2013, Merin was initially posted as the Assistant Superintendent of Police at Munnar, Kerala and later went on to become the DCP of Kozhikode.

Securing an All India Rank of 188, Merin Joseph, the brave and hard-working IPS Officer shared her experience after becoming an IPS Officer.

“I would say that the training of an IPS officer is probably the most exciting thing a youngster can undergo at any point of his or her life. I am very fortunate to have cleared the examination in 2013 in my first attempt. Life has been great ever since I have been into the service and I am very happy with my decision of taking up IPS,” the officer was quoted saying.

Merin Joseph is truly an inspiration for many youths aspiring to take up Indian Police Service.  She was also the first lady IPS officer from Kerala Police to command a troop outside the state for an election duty.

Merin Joseph married Chris Abraham, who is a doctor by profession, in 2015.

Merin Joseph was born in Kottayam, Kerala. She has done schooling from New Delhi, as her father was working there. She then took admission in St. Stephen’s College from where she has done B.A.– Honours. Considered a brilliant student, she started preparing for Civils and took admission in a coaching institute in Mukerjee Nagar, New Delhi.
