Weight management and shedding extra fat continue to attract the attention of people concern about their health. While several weight loss tips, dieting and diet plans are ruling the internet, a study reveal that drinking black tea can help prevent obesity and promote health.

According to an IANS report, lead author Susanne Henning, Professor at the University of California - Los Angeles (UCLA) found that black tea, through a specific mechanism through the gut microbiome, may also contribute to good health and weight loss in humans.

The findings showed that the polyphenols chemicals found in black tea alters energy metabolism in the liver by changing gut metabolites.

The study, by experimenting the same on mice that consumed a high-fat, high-sugar diets and were supplemented with black tea extracts, found lesser type of bacteria associated with obesity, but had more of bacteria associated with lean body mass.

The findings suggest that the tea has a strong impact on the gut microbiome.
