(image) Los Angeles: They had shocked both political and showbiz circles by announcing their separation but former California governor Arnold Schwarzenegger says that he and estranged wife Maria Shriver still "love each other".

The star of the hit `Terminator` series who announced his split after a 25-year-long marriage on Monday said that both he and Shriver are taking "one day at a time", reported Los Angeles Times online.

"I just spoke to Maria an hour ago before I came here... We both love each other very much. We`re very fortunate to have four extraordinary children. And we`re taking it one day at a time," said the 63-year-old.

"We both were saying the same thing, we`re extremely blessed to be surrounded by so many wonderful people, by so many wonderful friends," added the action star who is returning to showbiz after eight years as the governor of the sunshine state.

Schwarzenegger and Shriver, a prominent member of the Kennedy dynasty, issued a joint statement saying that they were living apart and will continue to parent their four children together.
