Mumbai: The ninth season of Kaun Banega Crorepati (KBC) saw its first crorepati, Anamika Mazumdar, a social worker from Jamshedpur here on Thursday, sources said.

KBC hosted by Big B Amitabh Bachchan in its ninth season was premiered on August 28 and has been skyrocketing in TRP charts but so far none of the contestants were able to cross the crore mark until last night.

Anamika, a resident of rural Jamshedpur broke that jinx and became the first crorepati of the famous show. Mother to two kids, Anamika who was also accompanied by her mother-in-law showed good resilience even when she had no lifeline to turn to when she reached the 1-crore mark. After winning 1 crore, the social worker decided to quit the show when she couldn't answer the jackpot question for claiming Rs 7 crore.

A social worker, Anamika runs Faith in India NGO through which she dedicates herself towards upliftment of rural women in Jharkand, for the last three years. During the commencement of the episode, she shared that she would use her prize money for the betterment of rural women.

The show is likely to be aired sometime in the next month. It will also feature badminton champion P V Sindhu.
