New Delhi: Actress Priyanka Chopra-starrer "Jai Gangaajal" has been declared tax-free in Madhya Pradesh.

Filmmaker Prakash Jha, who made his acting debut with the film, confirmed the news to IANS via text message.

Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan's official Twitter page mentioned that the films "Neerja" -- a biopic on the life of Neerja Bhanot who sacrificed her life while saving passengers on board the hijacked Pan Am flight 73 -- and "Jai Gangaajal" have been declared tax free in the state.

"Films promoting women empowerment, 'Neerja' and 'Jai Gangaajal' declared tax free in the state, on the directives of CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan," read a tweet from the Chief Minister's Office on Thursday.

Jha, who was lauded by the audience for his acting skill in the film, says he is "grateful" to the chief minister and the state.

"Grateful to Shivraj Singh Chouhan and Madhya Pradesh," Jha tweeted.

"Jai Gangaajal" released on Friday and saw Jha essaying a corrupt police officer named B.N. Singh, while Priyanka was seen playing a officer named Abha Mathur.
