Mumbai: Censor board has changed 'A' certification it assigned earlier to actress Priyanka Chopra's maiden item song 'Babli Badmaash' to 'U/A'.

The Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) had reportedly given the song 'A' certificate after receiving complaint from Delhi-based women activists against "commodification" of female body in such performances but they decided to change it to U/A following a review.

"On Monday, CBFC put 'Babli Badmaash' through the Revising Committee, which cleared the track with a 'U/A' certificate", said a statement issued by Balaji Motion Pictures here today.

Balaji Motion Pictures CEO Tanuj Garg said in the statement that, "After submitting 'Babli Badmaash' for certification, we were informed that it would get an 'A' because it was an item track. We informed the CBFC that the industry was not aware of such a rule and that this would warrant a larger discussion between both parties."

He said the CBFC was informed that there was no such blanket directive and that songs are certified according to their content.

The dance number 'Babli Badmaash' was initially granted an 'A' certificate on the ground that it was an 'item song'.

"The CBFC is believed to have received a complaint from some Delhi-based women's body regarding the commodification of women in item songs," the statement said.

Priyanka will be seen wearing an edgy costume of rubber and leather studded with LED lights loosely resembling the jacket worn by actor Amitabh Bachchan for popular disco number 'Saara Zamana' in blockbuster 'Yaarana (1981)-in Sanjay Gupta's upcoming film 'Shootout At Wadala'.

The retro-style track 'Babli Badmaash' is composed by Anu Malik, while singer Sunidhi Chauhan has rendered the track, choreographed by Ahmed Khan.

The film, starring John Abraham, Anil Kapoor, Tusshar Kapoor, Sonu Sood, Manoj Bajpayee, Mahesh Manjreka, Kangana Ranuat among others, is slated for May 1 release.
