Los Angeles: Actress Amber Heard's $7 million divorce settlement with estranged husband Johnny Depp is going to charity.

Heard said she's donating half of the settlement to American Civil Liberties Union, “with a particular focus to stop violence against women”, and to the Children's Hospital of Los Angeles, where she has worked as a volunteer for the past ten years, reports variety.com.

“As described in the restraining order and divorce settlement, money played no role for me personally and never has except to the extent that I could donate it to charity and in doing so, hopefully help those less able to defend themselves,” she said in a statement.

“As reported in the media, the amount received in the divorce was $7 million and $7 million is being donated. This is over and above any funds that I have given away in the past and will continue to give away in the future,” Heard added.

Heard and Depp settled their divorce case on Tuesday.

The actress had previously accused Depp of physically assaulting her on several occasions. She withdrew allegations and retracted her request for a restraining order as well, which she filed on April 27.
