Mumbai: A magistrate's court has asked the Mumbai Police to conduct a probe into a complaint against Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar and others over a scene in his 2012 film `Khiladi 786' for allegedly hurting the religious sentiments.

"Instead of directly sending process (issuing summons, etc.), it would be appropriate to send the matter for inquiry and report by concerned police station," magistrate R K Kshirsagar of Andheri court said in a recent order.

According to Avinash Kumar Dubey, the lawyer of the complainant Naseem Bano, the film has a scene in which Kumar stamps on a replica of `786', a number considered sacred by a particular community.

The complaint also names the producer and the director of the film.

The court asked the police to file a report by February 11.
