Bhubaneswar/New Delhi: A day after one of the prominent national daily newspapers published a report that the University Grants Commission (UGC) is mulling to cut funds allocated annually to Women Study Centres across the country, the commission, on Thursday, termed the news as false and baseless.

In a notice issued, UGC mentioned that the statutory body has no such plans. Besides, it has not taken any step to cut or stop funding/support to Women Study Centres.

Earlier, a report was published stating that the Indian Association for Women's Studies had expressed concern over the future of 167 women's studies centres in universities and colleges across the country following a UGC notice that makes funding for them after September 30 uncertain.

Referring to a UGC public notice of March 29 this year, the media report claimed that the continuance of the ongoing UGC schemes under the Sixth Plan after September 30 this year would solely depend on the outcome of a review by the UGC.
