CBSE class 10: Know the new percentage to pass board exams

Bhubaneswar/New Delhi: In a big relief to a large number of class 10 students who will be appearing for board exams beginning next week, Central Board of Secondary Examination (CBSE) has modified the pass mark criteria to grant a one-time relaxation in passing marks.

With the decision coming into effect for the current batch students, there will be no need for them to secure 33 per cent separately in board exams and internal assessments but one has to secure a total of 33 per cent (internal assessment and theory marks combined).

However, that there would be no exemption from the separate pass criteria for vocational subjects as the internal assessment consists of 50 marks, a notification by the Board stated.

Presently the current batch has five main subjects which will be exempted from the mandatory separate pass criteria in subjects provided they have 20 marks for internal assessment and 80 marks for the board examination. The same passing criteria will also apply in the additional subjects.

The annual class 10 examination this year will be the first mandatory public exam after eight years. The CBSE had introduced the Comprehensive and Continuous Evaluation (CCE) scheme and made the Board exam optional from academic year 2010-11 but revoked the system in 2017.
