New Delhi/Bhubaneswar: The Indian Railways has set a target to recruit as many as 26,000 candidates in apprentice section to fill the vacant posts in its 16 zonal and seven production units in the next fiscal.

As per reports, the Railways has plans to impart training to as many as 30,000 apprentices in 2018-19 financial year, as part of the Central government's Skill India initiative, the Railways said in a statement.

These recruited apprentices would be trained in various categories like welder, painter, fitter, turner, machinist, carpenter, electrician, mechanic (motor vehicle/diesel), refrigerator, AC mechanic and others.

In the current fiscal, around 26,000 training slots for apprenticeship have been notified in addition to more than 4,000 people already undergoing training at various railway facilities.

"The Railway recognises that skill development of the labour force is an important component of development of human resources. It is crucial for the industrial development of the country. Skill training imparted through formal institutions alone is not sufficient to make the labour force fully skilled. This needs to be supplemented by training in the actual work place," the statement added.

Besides, the statement read that the national transporter has recently released a recruitment notification for recruitment of 62,907 staff in Level 1 pay scale.
