Bhubaneswar: Sexual assault on minor girls continues unabated in Odisha with three such cases reported from different parts of the State in last 24 hours.

A 16-year-old girl was allegedly gang raped by three youths including a juvenile at Badachakada village under Rambha area in Ganjam district on May 26. However, the matter came to light only after the mother of the survivor lodged a complaint at Rambha police station on Friday.

The three accused including the juvenile are absconding after the incident.

According to the family of the survivor, the minor girl had gone to nearby pond to take bath when the three youths forcibly abducted and gang raped her at nearby cashew plantation area.

“After gang-raping, they physically assaulted her and threatened her not to reveal the matter to anyone,” stated the mother of the minor girl in her complaint.

Following the incident, the family members of the minor girl had reported the matter to the sarpanch of the village.  But after no action was taken and negotiation efforts by others failed, the survivor's family reported the incident with police.

Basing on the complaint, a case has been registered by Rambha police while efforts have begun to nab the accused who are absconding after the incident.

A class 7 student was allegedly raped by a minor while she was alone in her house in Khaira police station area in Balasore district. Police have arrested and sent the accused to Juvenile Home after registering a case.

Similarly, in another incident, a minor girl was allegedly raped by a youth at Banki area of Cuttack district while she had gone to relieve herself in the field. The youth was identified as a resident of Tulasipur. Police have registered a case and initiated probe into the incident.
