Kendrapara: A contractor from Kendrapara was brutally hacked to death by 'unidentified miscreants' in Kerala on Saturday. The deceased has been identified as Pravakar Das of Pentha village under Patkura police limits.

According to sources, Pravakar, who runs a small grocery shop at Coonoor area in Kerala, was also working as a contractor for the last 10 years. It was only a month back that he had returned to Kerala after visiting his native village in Kendrapara.

According to reports, miscreants barged into his house in Kerala and hacked him to death after taking the entire family hostage on May 19.

Pravakar's wife, who was also attacked, is now battling for life at hospital, informed sources.

"My son had just returned home after withdrawing nearly Rs 5 lakh for making payments to staff of the construction company. Miscreants entered the house and attacked him even though he had handed over the money and other gold ornaments," said deceased Pravakar's mother, Minati Das.

The family members have now sought intervention of Odisha government for justice alleging that they are not getting adequate assistance from local administration in Kerala in connection with the incident.
