Dhenkanal: It was a close shave for former Dhenkanal MLA Nabin Nanda after unidentified miscreants hurled crude bombs at his vehicle near Takhurpal village under Gondia block on Monday.

Though the vehicle of Nanda sustained extensive damage, he escaped unhurt in the incident. The incident occurred when he was travelling in his SUV to attend 'Dhenkanal Swabhiman Surakshya Abhiyan' rally along with supporters.

According to reports, two miscreants lobbed two crude bombs at Nanda's vehicle and fled the spot.

Though the exact reason behind the bombing is still unclear, it is suspected that the incident could be fallout of some past political or personal enmity.

"My vehicle has been damaged due to the bomb attack during my visit to Kaluria gram panchayat. I have already informed the local police, district administration and DGP RP Sharma," tweeted Nanda.

"The miscreants had hurled bombs targeting me. But due to God's grace, the bomb hit my vehicle. As I have been visiting different villages and listening to the grievances of people in the constituency, the attack might have been orchestrated by my political rivals," said Nanda.

Sources said as several supporters of Nanda were accompanying him in a motorcycle rally. Meanwhile, police have started investigation into the incident.
