Angul: Police have arrested a man today for allegedly killing his 13-day-old daughter by throwing her in a well in Chhanchunia village of Angul district.

The matter came to light on July 6 when the infant had suddenly gone missing. Initially, a fake story of the baby being taken away by dogs was spread across the village. But the truth was later revealed after the body was found inside a nearby well by locals.

After a complaint was lodged, police carried out an investigation and interrogated father of the infant, Dushashan Sahu.

"I was under huge financial pressure as even after working as a driver for 18 years, I was not able to earn enough to take care of two daughters. So I decided to throw the infant into the well in the morning when no one was around," said Sahu after confessing to the crime.

Pallahara Sub-Divisional Police Officer Jasobant Samal said, "It didn't took us long to come to the conclusion as during interrogation he confessed that he wouldn't have been able to financially support two daughters and therefore, he took the extreme step."
