Bhubaneswar: In a new turn of events after the half-burnt body of one Unmay Padhi was recovered in Kuakhai area on the outskirts of Bhubaneswar, Commissionerate Police today revealed that the deceased was not murdered rather he had committed suicide.
Such revelation has now put an end to the speculations which were triggered after a 'sex tape' involving Padhi and a girl surfaced following Padhi's death.
Police Commissioner, YB Khurania on Thursday informed that "Initially a case under Sections 302 & 201 of the Indian Penal Code was registered after a half-charred body of an 'unknown person' was recovered from Kuakhai river bed on March 21. As a knife was present in the stomach of the deceased's body, police had started preliminary investigation by registering a murder case. Later, after the identity of the deceased was ascertained, police had launched a probe taking into account several aspects. Even the preliminary post mortem report and other evidences were sent to AIIMS experts for a final opinion."
After analysing all facts, both medical and physical, it has now been ascertained that the stab wound on deceased Unmay Padhi body was 'self-inflicted', said the Police Commissioner.
Later, Padhi set himself on fire by pouring petrol and died of shock due to burn injuries, revealed Khurania in a presser today.
"There were no self-defence injury marks on the body of the deceased and the injury on his head was due to fire," said Khurania.
Senior police officials said that in a handwritten note, the deceased had alleged that money was fraudulently withdrawn from his bank account and he suspected his ex-girlfriend and her male friend's involvement.
However, investigations revealed that all the transactions were made by Unmay Padhi and his brother and so far the involvement of the girl and his friend has not been ascertained.
Earlier, Padhi was in a love relationship with the girl, who also worked in the same private company where he was working.
Padhi was arrested after the girl lodged a complaint at Kharavel Police Station against him for uploading some pictures and video of their intimate moments in 2017.
After his release from jail, Padhi lost his job due to his criminal record.
