Kendrapara: The Kendrapara SDJM court today allowed the Crime Branch of Odisha Police to take gangster Syed Usman Ali alias Tito on a five-day remand.

The gangster had sustained bullet injuries on his left leg in a police encounter near Chandikhole on June 30 and was undergoing treatment at the SCB Medical College and Hospital. Yesterday, police took Tito into custody after he was discharged from the hospital and produced him before the Kendrapara Sub-Divisional Judicial Magistrate (SDJM) court amid tight security.

Though the Crime Branch had appealed for a 10-day remand, the SDJM Court while hearing the plea allowed it to take Tito on a remand of five days.

Special Task Force DSP, Rama Chandra Thamb stated, “We had filed a petition at the Court yesterday to take him on remand. We had appealed for a 10-day remand, but the Court granted permission for only five days. We are taking him on remand from today.”

The court had sent Tito to the Kendrapara Sub-jail after rejecting his bail plea yesterday.

As per sources, more than 100 cases including murder, tender fixing, and other crimes are pending against Tito in different police stations of the State. He was also allegedly involved in the attack on terror suspect Abdur Rehman’s brother at Jagatpur in Cuttack.
