Bhubaneswar/Kendrapara: The special task force (STF) of Crime Branch on Friday took arrested gangster Syed Usman Ali alias Tito on further remand to elicit more information about his businesses and crime networks.
Tito was produced before the Kendrapara SDJM Court yesterday which allowed the CB to take the gangster on remand for three more days.
Earlier yesterday, STF officials interrogated Tito’s wife Benazir Bibi in connection with benami properties of Tito. According to sources, a DSP and two lady police inspectors went to the ganster’s residence at Dilarpur in Kendrapara district and quizzed Benazir about huge amount of assets accumulated by her without any accountable sources of income.
After Benazir’s interrogation, STF sleuths also visited the office of Kendrapara Civil Supplies Officer (CSO) and examined on what basis Benazir was issued license to run a petrol pump.
Similarly, the investigating agency also grilled a former Kendrapara councillor for his alleged links with Tito, sources added. Meanwhile, the CB is also investigating Tito’s various political connections.
It may be noted that Tito was initially taken on a five-day remand following his arrest after an encounter by the CB near Chandikhole in Jajpur on June 30. Later, the SDJM Court allowed the investigating agency to take the gangster on further remand for four days on July 9.
