2017 Gopalpur Gang Rape: Accused arrested from Gujarat

Surat: Surat Crime Branch Saturday arrested Pramod Sahu who was wanted in connection with 2017 gang rape incident which took place in Gopalpur area of Ganjam district.

Sahu was nabbed basing on a tip-off from Odisha police regarding his presence in Surat, police sources said.

Confirming the development, Surat SP JK Pandya informed that the accused was working in a factory since last couple of months.

"The accused had raped a dibyang girl at a cashew factory in Gopalpur in November 2017. Basing on intelligence received from Odisha police, we managed to nab the accused who was absconding after committing the crime," said Pandya.

Senior police officials informed that Sahu along with one Shankar Reddy had allegedly gang raped the dibyang woman while the latter had gone to attend nature's call.

Though Reddy was subsequently nabbed by Ganjam police, Sahu was absconding since then, sources added.
