A division bench of Justices AM Khanwilkar and CT Ravikumar heard the contempt petition (C) No 172/2021 on Wednesday and deferred the hearing until the pronouncement of judgment in another petition filed by Odisha (Diary No. 2175 of 2022).

The one noticeable thing during the three phases of polling so far has been that the most of the major incidents of violence have taken place in the politically volatile coastal Odisha while polling has passed off relatively peacefully in the areas grappling with left wing extremism.
The third phase voting was underway at 18,495 booths in 1,382 Gram Panchayats under 63 blocks of 29 districts. As many as 679 candidates are in the fray for the 171 Zilla Parishad seats.
The Odisha State Election Commission will conduct re-polling at 45 booths across the State on February 23. The voting exercise will be held from 9 am to 3 pm on the scheduled date.
Voting is on at 20,436 booths in 1,514 Panchayats of 68 blocks across the state.

After numerous instances of poll violence in the first phase, the second phase of Panchayat Elections in Odisha kicked off on Friday with much enthusiasm but with caution and security in place.
In the second phase election, Kotia Panchayat, the bone of contention between Andhra Pradesh and Odisha due to border issue, will be in the focus.
In the first phase, over 71,51,000 voters were to exercise their franchise. Approximately 70 percent of these voters turned up to vote.
