New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday took a ride in Delhi Metro and inaugurated a line connecting Badarpur here and Faridabad in Haryana.

He took the ride between Janpath and Bata Chowk stations.

Union Minister for Urban Development M. Venkaiah Naidu, Union Minister for Rural Development Birender Singh, Haryana Governor Kaptan Singh Solanki and Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal received Modi at the Bata Chowk Metro station.

The prime minister also interacted with passengers on the metro, allowing some of them to take selfies with him.

Modi was slated to address a public meeting after inaugurating the metro corridor.

The Rs.2,900 crore project, an extension of the violet line between the ITO and Badarpur Metro stations, will have nine stations - Sarai, NHPC Chowk, Mewala Maharajpur, Sector 28, Badkal Mor, Old Faridabad, Neelam Chowk Ajronda, Bata Chowk and Escorts Mujesar.

About 1.95 lakh passengers are expected to use the new corridor every day by the year-end.

The 13.87 km Delhi (Badarpur)-Faridabad (Escorts Mujesar) Metro corridor is equipped with solar power generation facilities in all stations and depots.

The new metro line will be open for public from 4 p.m. on Sunday.
