Man attacks sister-in-law over suspicion of practising witchcraft

Keonjhar: Superstition can lead to severe consequences as it happened in case of a woman who was murderously attacked by her brother-in-law over allegation of  practising  black magic in Keonjhar today.

According to information, the incident took place at Deuladiha village under Sadar police limits in Keonjhar district where the woman identified as Laxmipriya was mercilessly attacked from behind by her brother-in-law while she was drying grains in sun.

The victim has sustained severe injuries on her head, shoulders and upper back and was immediately rushed to Keonjhar hospital. "She needs intensive care and I have referred her to Cuttack SCB," Babachi Naik, the doctor treating Laxmipriya said.

Police, on being informed,reached the spot and initiated investigation.

From initial probe, it was found that Laxmipriya was suspected to be practising  witchcraft for quite some time now and this led to tension between Laxmipriya's husband and his brother every now and then, police said.
